Woodlands School Plymouth
We all use Clicker all the time at Woodlands School as all of our children have physical difficulties – it is a major part of everything we do! It really meets the needs of our pupils and it’s so fantastic that it is completely customisable. We can use it for pupils who use single scanning, auto-scanning or dual scan – whichever is most appropriate for the individual.
I mainly use Clicker to support pupils to access their learning. Without Clicker, many would be left without any ability to participate in lessons. I also use Clicker to teach basic concepts and make my own grids to support ICT lessons. I have also created simple grids for pupils to develop their control of pointers and touch screens which excite pupils with more severe needs. I enjoy making grids for pupils to access using switches and touch screens; it is incredibly rewarding to see them work independently.
"...they have been able to construct
programmes for Lego robots..."I have been working with two particular pupils creating grids in Clicker to ensure that they are able to participate fully in the KS3 ICT scheme of work, accessing grids using head and hand switches. Through using specially created Clicker grids, they have been able to construct programmes for Lego robots, search the Internet and evaluate their learning.
"I created grids for them to change
and enhance their own photos..."I have also enabled them to manipulate images using Clicker grids. By using pictures distorted in a digital photo programme, I created grids for them to change and enhance their own photos. They told assistants which effect to choose and could then develop the effect or choose to discard it. They couldn’t have independently made those choices without Clicker. The smiles on their faces were a testament to the power of Clicker!
I love the fact that I can download grids directly from the Internet into Clicker and either use them or adapt them to our needs. It is just so easy to create grids for individual pupils or learning objectives. There really is nothing else out there that is as flexible and inclusive as Clicker!
