Saltersgate Infant School Doncaster
I have been using Clicker 5 to support specific children in our school who are struggling or who have special needs. We use the interactive whiteboard with Clicker as a whole-group activity. We are able to write our sentences together using the grids that I have set up. I also make use of lots of the ready-prepared grids from the LearningGrids website. I love the fact that the children can hear their constructed sentence and self-correct if required. It is great that they are able to try things out before they have to commit to paper, and then they can also change their minds if it is not quite what they expected!
"She has been able to
self-correct her work..."I have been working with a particular child with autism. She is 6 and in year 2 but she is unable to transfer any of the words she can read into a written form using pencil and paper. Whenever she is given a pencil, she just refuses to use it. She is so self-aware and knows she can’t write in that way and that it will look untidy when completed. So, I create grids for her to use during her lessons so that she can also access the curriculum and enable her to be part of the group/class. She can then create sentences using the key vocabulary and hear the words before she writes them. She has been able to self-correct her work and is also able to present a high-quality piece of work at the end of the lesson. She can now create her own written work as she is able to 'see' the words she wants and choose them to fit. It has really opened up a whole new world for her! She can now take words she can read and transfer them into a written format. Her self-esteem and self-confidence have grown enormously. She finally has work she can show to the class too!
